You touch the pull starter before anything else on a brush cutter. The FS240 recoil starter assembly brings together the housing, the black T handle and the inner reel with its spring. Each pull winds the spring, and on release it turns the crankshaft to get the engine going. Starters wear out by use: a tired spring or a frayed cord is all it takes for the pull to go soft.
This unit comes complete, housing and handle included, with the cord already seated on the reel. Mount it in the old starter's position and it is ready, no assembly required. Vents in the housing keep things cool and block debris, and the round center cover shields the moving parts.
When is the whole starter due? If the cord will not pull, the spring no longer spins the engine, the rope shows fraying or split strands, or the housing cracks, replace the complete assembly. The FS260 and FS460 are close to the FS240 in design, so match the mounting holes and the cord length against your old unit before you fit it.
For hillside brush cutting, orchard work or parts sales, one spare starter on the shelf is peace of mind: swap it in when the old one fails and the machine works again right away.
