Diesel Engine Fuel Injector: Installation & Usage Guide
Installation:
Absolute cleanliness is vital. Before installation, meticulously clean the injector bore and mating surfaces in the cylinder head. Always use new sealing washers, O-rings, and gaskets. Lightly lubricate these seals with clean engine oil prior to fitting. Insert the injector carefully by hand, ensuring it is seated squarely. Crucially, tighten the retaining bolt(s) only to the manufacturer's specified torque using a calibrated wrench. Over-torquing can cause permanent damage. Securely reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and electrical connector (if equipped).
Usage & Precautions:
After installation, bleed the fuel system to remove air. Upon starting, immediately check for any fuel or gas leaks. For modern electronic engines, programming the new injector's calibration code into the Engine Control Unit (ECU) is often essential for proper performance. To ensure long service life and prevent damage, always use high-quality, clean diesel fuel and change fuel filters at recommended intervals. Be alert to symptoms like hard starting, rough idle, excessive smoke, or power loss, which may indicate injector issues.
WARNING: Never check for high-pressure fuel leaks with your hands, as diesel fuel can penetrate skin and cause severe injury.
